Station Commander Dave Bracewell of the London Fire Brigade is on scene at Morson Road, Enfield. He said: “The firefighters were faced with a well-developed blaze upon arrival.
“Crews are working hard to prevent the blaze from spreading to surrounding buildings and a revolving ladder is being used to fight the blaze from above.
“The fire produces a significant amount of smoke, so residents in the area are advised to keep their doors and windows closed.”
The 999 brigade control officers responded to 13 fire calls, starting at 1.30 a.m.
Firefighters from Chingford, Enfield, Edmonton, Woodford and Tottenham are present.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
