Morgan Plus Four wins legal road racing variant for 2021 Car News

The Morgan Plus Four has acquired a new racing variant for 2021, Malvern’s first motorsport offering to use the new CX-Generation lightweight architecture.

The CX-Generation platform weighs only 97kg but offers improved structural rigidity over the previous Morgans ladder frame. As with the Plus Four series, the racing cars are powered by an original BMW 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and can be fitted with a manual or automatic gearbox.

The runner has been designed in partnership with the School of Engineering and the University of Wolverhampton Running Team to compete in several club-level sprint and endurance championships, and will compete for the remainder of the season 2021 and in future campaigns.

The first two cars completed are fully approved for the road, and customers are encouraged to contact Morgan to order a custom example. Owners can drive their cars to and from the track themselves; However, the company claims that these racing variants will be driven primarily by professional racing drivers so that it can collect data for its development program.

“We are delighted to announce the launch of the motorsport variant of the Morgan Plus Four, which continues our long tradition of motorsport,” said Morgan CEO Steve Morris.

“A century ago Morgan three-wheelers became famous for their exploits in trial, hill climb and endurance racing, and that competitive spirit is still alive here at our Pickersleigh Road plant.

The company hopes the data collected while driving the cars in racing environments will help it develop current and future Morgan models.
