Mini JCW Anniversary Edition marks 60 years of Cooper models Car News

Mini unveiled the John Cooper Works Anniversary Edition to commemorate 60 years of working with the Cooper family.

A total of 740 copies of the three-door hot hatch will be built, of which only 60 are destined for the UK.

Retaining the JCW’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine, it produces 228 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque and covers the 0-62 mph sprint in 6.3 seconds to reach a top speed of 153 mph.

The Anniversary Edition comes with a number of bespoke touches, including Rebel Green paint; a roof, door handles, mirror caps, headlight rings finished in white; and white hood stripes with red accent lines. It also wears the number 74 on its doors and hood in a nod to the Mini Cooper winning its first class victory at the 1961 Lombank Trophy in Snetterton.

The original Mini then triumphed at the Monte-Carlo Rally in 1965, 1965 and 1967.

The JCW Anniversary Edition rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with run-flat tires.

Its size is finished in Piano Black, as is its interior. Dinamica adorns the seats and the dashboard bears the signatures of three generations of the Cooper family: John Cooper, his son John Jr and his grandson Charlie.

The announcement of the special edition car comes on the occasion of what would have been John Cooper Sr.’s 98th birthday.

Other touches include the dark rear window and the original Cooper Car Company logo on the door sill trims, side vents, C-pillars and steering wheel. A handwritten plaque notes the individual number of each car in the 740-person race, along with the phrase “60 Years of Mini Cooper – The Unexpected Underdog”.

Mini’s Navigation Plus package is standard, which includes a larger center touchscreen (8.8 inches), Apple CarPlay, head-up display, wireless smartphone charging and a digital instrument display.
