The north London club have been linked with a potential move for the Clarets’ number one for some time now, but a recent Daily Mail report suggested they may be looking to rush for Ramsdale instead.

The Blades goalkeeper has been drafted into the England squad for Euro 2020 after Pope and Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson retired due to injury during the tournament preparation.

Roberts is unsure if the 23-year-old is the right fit for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Speaking to Football Fancast, the Spurs legend said: “He [Ramsdale] is young. I am not so sure.

“Personally, I would have opted for the young Pope; I think he’s a better goalie.

“I think the guy from West Brom [Sam Johnstone] is also a better keeper.

“So I think those two are ahead of Ramsdale.”

Tottenham are said to be looking for a long-term successor to World Cup winner Hugo Lloris.

It is widely argued that Sheffield United’s relegation from the Premier League last season could make Ramsdale a more attainable and desirable target for top clubs this summer, with The Athletic reporting that Arsenal have already rejected an offer for the former man of Bournemouth.
