The new Alpina B4 2022 will be based on a four-door Gran Coupé Car News

Alpina will expand its portfolio of upgraded BMW models with a new generation B4, but while the previous car was based on the two-door 4 Series Coupé, it looks like its successor will take the new 4 Series Gran Coupé as its base.

New spy photos show a clearly improved 4 Series Gran Coupe being tested on public roads, giving credence to earlier claims that Buchloe’s next unveiling will be a four-door proposition, rather than one based on the two-door 4 Series coupe. The advice came from an unidentified source on the popular Bimmerpost forum that claimed to have access to future product plans “compiled from various leaks within the BMW organization.”

According to the dates given, the new Alpina B4 will be introduced in March 2022, as BMW debuts a new 430ix four-wheel drive variant of the G26 generation 4 Series Gran Coupé. It remains possible that a two-door version will follow soon after.

Considering the technical similarities between the previous generation B4 and the B3 based on the 3 Series, we already have a good idea of the makeup of the new four-door version.

The B4 will no doubt share the B3’s latest twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter gasoline inline-six, sending 462 hp and 516 lb-ft to both axles via an eight-speed automatic gearbox tuned for gear changes. fast speed and improved response. A diesel version, badged D4, will probably follow soon after.

The performance figures will also be broadly comparable, given that the Gran Coupé and the 3 Series are closely related in size and weight, so expect a 0-62mph time of less than 4.0 seconds and top speed. peak approaching 190 mph. The B4, like the previous generation did, will essentially bridge the gap between BMW’s own M440i xDrive and the greasy M4.

It will also bring its own dynamic character, with suspension tuning primarily focused on comfort and adaptive dampers aimed at improving cornering response. The four-wheel drive system and limited slip differential will also be adapted to cope with the added growl.

As is tradition at Alpina, the B4 will set itself apart from its standard BMW counterpart with a subtle body kit with an Alpina badge, unique color combinations and the choice of the tuner’s distinctive 20-spoke alloy wheels.

With a March 2022 launch on the cards, we expect the envelopes to come off the new arrival sometime before the end of 2021. As for pricing, expect orders to open up. from around £ 65,000 – again placing the B4 in the gap between the Series 4 and M4.
