Hyundai is set to unveil plans for a slew of hydrogen-based products and technologies next month – and they include a new track-sharpened performance sedan.
The Korean company says its Hydrogen Wave online event on September 7 will feature plans for a “future vision of a sustainable hydrogen society.” Hyundai also said: “Future state-of-the-art fuel cell electric vehicles – along with other innovative applications – will be unveiled at the forum. “
One of the videos shows a camouflaged Hyundai hydrogen sedan being tested on a racetrack, with the caption “Hydrogen, let’s go for a clean future”. Although no details were given, Hyundai previously said its performance brand N will develop hydrogen fuel cell and battery electric vehicles in the future.
The car seen in the teaser videos bears similarities to the American Veloster N, although it appears shorter and has a different design around the rear windows.
The remaining videos showcase new hydrogen products for freight and public transport. The teaser video on using hydrogen to power commercial vehicles teases vehicles that feature the HTWO brand, Hyundai’s recently established sub-brand that will grow its global fuel cell business.
With Toyota, the Hyundai Motor group has continued to invest heavily in the development of hydrogen technology, both for transportation and other uses. Hyundai says it is working on “exciting business plans and strategies for new hydrogen mobility technology, next-generation fuel cell systems, and applications to various industries beyond the automotive industry.”
Hyundai has a long history in hydrogen fuel cell technology, including the ix35, Ioniq FCEV and Nexo FCV vehicles.
Various Hyundai affiliates will also showcase products developed using the company’s hydrogen technology at the event.
