South Yorkshire Police said police had been deployed to a house in north Sheffield to deal with a 29-year-old man already wanted for burglary who showed up at his parents’ house and started causing damage criminals.
He left just before the police arrived, but then returned and, after spotting the police car parked outside, threw a can of paint on the car.
The man also removed the cameras from the police car before fleeing.
A police dog found him in a field, where he had climbed a tree in an attempt to escape arrest.
He was arrested at the scene but it is not yet known whether he has been charged.
Witnesses or anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
