Nicola Sturgeon LIVE: Nova Scotia lockdown looming – Covid rules should be tightened TODAY | United Kingdom | New UK News

The Prime Minister will speak to MSPs for the first time at Holyrood since Scotland left the tier system on August 9, but she has since held a small number of press briefings on Covid. No major changes went into effect last month, but there is speculation that some lockdown restrictions could be reimposed in an attempt to curb the recent outbreak of the virus.

In the past seven days, the record for most cases has been broken three times with 6,029 reported on Tuesday.

There were 585 patients in hospitals, up from 34 in one day, with 54 patients in intensive care, up from two. This compares to previous pandemic peaks of 2,053 in hospitals and 221 in intensive care.

The highest number was reported on Sunday with 7,113 cases.

Although some restrictions may be reimposed, it is not expected that there will be any drastic changes due to the successful rollout of the vaccine across Scotland.

On Tuesday 3,680,761, people had received two doses of a Covid vaccine.

National Clinical Director Jason Leitch said his advice would be to “stop transmission” by limiting the “unventilated indoor” areas that attract crowds.

Professor Leitch said: “Transmission occurs indoors, unventilated, in crowds. So if you wanted to stop the transmission, you have to think about the areas that match these criteria that you can just go back a bit. “

When asked if that meant pubs and nightclubs, he replied that “maybe this is where to start”, but added that ministers should consider the economic implications of their closure again.

Ms Sturgeon is expected to speak in Parliament around 2 p.m. before opening the floor to questions from Members.

Opposition and SNP / Greens politicians will be able to question the Prime Minister.
