Southern Water to carry out repairs as sewers burst in Lancing Brighton News

REPAIRS are underway after a sewer burst in a residential subdivision.

Southern Water crews will use tankers on the West Beach estate in Lancing today to protect the environment and manage flows so people can use their facilities normally.

One-way traffic management is in place along Brighton Road.

The company apologized for the disruption caused and said traffic management would remain in place during the week “to keep people safe while we cover a sewer section to reduce the risk of a future burst.” .

In a statement, Southern Water said: “We would like to apologize to our customers in Orient Road, Lancing following another explosion in the area’s sewers – we are grateful for their patience and happy that none house or property has not been affected.

“We are already preparing to put a special polymer coating in a nearby sewer section to harden the network with works from Monday.

β€œIn addition to performing a burst repair, we are moving forward with plans to use tankers to manage flows so the environment is protected and customers can use the facilities as usual.

“More work to prevent future gusts in the region is being planned and we will keep people informed.”

Photos posted on social media show effluent on the road alongside Orient Road, The Broadway and West Way.

Tankers were called to a damaged main on Orient Road in October, and tankers were dispatched to the scene to prevent raw sewage from flooding homes and gardens.

Images from the October spill showed sewage flooding the streets around the West Beach estate.
