Significant traffic delays in Hendon after a water pipe burst on the A41 UK News

Homes were left without water and there was major disruption after a second pipe burst within days.

The last gust occurred on the A41 at Hendon today (December 14).

Thames Water says this is separate from the incident that happened higher up the A41 near Mill Hill over the weekend.

The A41 was closed southbound by police at the junction with Hendon Central Station, with engineers on site making urgent repairs.

Engineers are due to dig 5 meters, according to Thames Water, and work on the A41 is expected to continue next week. Work continues on repairs to the original burst by Fiveways Corner, which left some properties without water for more than a day.

The water supplier says residents living in the zip codes of NW1, NW2, NW4, NW7 and NW11 may see their water supply affected, which includes Hendon, Golders Green, Cricklewood, Mill Hill and parts of Brent and Camden which border the district of Barnet.

A drive-thru bottled water station is open at the Barnet Copthall Leisure Center at Champions Way, Mill Hill, (NW4 1PX) for those in need of water. It will be open until 9 p.m. tonight and is scheduled to reopen tomorrow.

Those with access to water should use it sparingly for now.

Due to the last road closure on the A41, there are traffic jams on the roads in Hendon and the surrounding area.

Queens Road, Station Road, Brent Street, Finchley Lane and the A5 are among the roads struggling to cope with the amount of traffic diverted from the scene.

A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “We are sorry for customers who have no water or below normal pressure today due to a new burst hose on Hendon Way. We understand that this will be frustrating and inconvenient for customers whose supplies have already been cut off in the past few days and we are working to make things right as soon as possible.

“We have a crew on site that cuts off the water flow from the broken pipe and the road is closed so they can work safely and excess water can drain away.

“Restoring the water supply is our top priority and while our experts are working on it we are reaching out to all those in the affected area who have pre-registered with us as having special requirements, such as medical addiction to water, so that we can contact us and make sure we give them the help and support they need. ”
