Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe charity single released – with husband and daughter UK News

The musical ensemble “The Christians” created a new version of their song “Man Don’t Cry” to raise funds for Redress, an international human rights organization that works to help victims of torture.

The band released the new single ‘Naz Don’t Cry’ after hearing about Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s case from their fans at a concert a few years ago.

The group had been thinking about what they could do to help the Anglo-Iranian national.

Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested in Iran in 2016 as she tried to return to the UK, after taking Gabriella – then even under two – to see her family.

The single comes after Nazanin’s husband Richard recently went on a 21-day hunger strike to bring renewed attention to his wife’s case.

Band members Garry Christian, Joey Ankrah and Neil Griffiths teamed up with writer Henry Priestman and Richard and Gabriella to produce the track.

The band recorded the single at Coastal Sound Studios in Liverpool, with Richard and Gabriella in backing vocals at the end of the track.

Mr Christian said: “We explained how the words of Man Don’t Cry, from our 1991 Color album, could not be more apt to describe the plight of the Ratcliffes.

“We dissuaded ourselves from helping because we felt that the profile of the group was not big enough to make a difference and the years went by.

“But after seeing Richard Ratcliffe recently on his 21 day hunger strike, we couldn’t bear to do nothing and decided to take action and record Naz Don’t Cry with the proceeds going to Redress. ”

He added, “As the lyrics say, ‘We just hope she knows there are people here who care.’

“We want the song to convey the simple message that we are always alongside Nazanin, her devoted husband Richard and her beautiful daughter Gabriella.

“It is absolutely desperate that after all these years, she still has not been released to her family. We hope this song will help you in a tiny way.

Naz Don’t Cry is now available on Island Records.
