The cost of fuel has increased because the wholesale price of crude oil used in the manufacture of gasoline and diesel has increased following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. According to figures compiled by data firm Experian Catalist, the average cost of a liter of diesel on UK forecourts reached 165.2p on Tuesday, down from 162.3p on Monday.

The price of a barrel of Brent crude, which is the most commonly used way of measuring the price of oil in the UK, hit $139 on Monday, its highest level in 14 years.
It has since fallen but remains above $100 and it may take time to trickle down to forecourt fuel prices.
The RAC said the 2.9 pence jump in the price of diesel was the biggest on record.
Meanwhile, the average price of a liter of petrol fell from 156.4p on Monday to 158.2p on Tuesday.
RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams told Sky News: ‘The cost of filling a 55-litre family car with petrol is now £87 – £7 more than when it started of the year.
“Diesel drivers are even worse off, with a tank now costing over £90 for the very first time, £8 more than at the start of January.”

The move was welcomed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said it sent a “powerful signal”.
