Covid: Council warning after cases rise in Brighton and Hove Brighton News

CORONAVIRUS cases are on the rise again in the city.

Brighton and Hove City Council said the surge in cases is a “reminder to all of us that Covid is still in our community”.

In the seven days to March 5, 1,561 new confirmed cases were confirmed.

This is an increase of 12.6%, which is equivalent to a weekly rate of 519.5 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The rate is higher than the south east, which was 478.4 per 100,000 and higher than England’s rate, which was 369.7 per 100,000.

A council spokesperson said: ‘We must do what we can to stop any further spread.

“This includes continuing to test while available and avoiding contact with others if you feel unwell, test positive or are in close contact.

Please think of others and take action to protect our families and communities, especially those at the greatest risk of serious illness.

People are urged to continue testing and self-isolate while awaiting results.
