Driver of wrecked stolen vehicle traps passenger’s hand in car door as he escapes Bath City News

The driver of a stolen vehicle reportedly scored an “own goal” after ramming the car and, in his haste to get away, slammed the door on his accomplice’s hand, trapping him.

The incident, reported by police last night on social media, happened on Friday night in Yeovil. Officers said the stolen vehicle was not being pursued when the ‘short-handed’ driver lost control and overturned the car. But it emerged that when he got out of the wrecked vehicle he decided to flee before the emergency services arrived – and in his haste managed to slam the car door on his passenger’s hand , trapping the unfortunate accomplice. When the police arrived at the scene of the accident, the passenger was still with the vehicle.

The Avon and Somerset Police Roads Unit tweeted at 10.52pm yesterday (Sunday) that while one occupant of the car escaped the second was found trapped – and is now in custody .

The message on Twitter read: “An own goal by the driver of this #stoveh in Yeovil on Friday night. Not pursued, just short of talent and returned. Occupant 1 successfully escaped, snapping the hand of the Occupant 2 in car door! Trapped on arrival. Ouch. One in custody, investigation ongoing. #TST3.”
