Kia has unveiled its Sportage plug-in hybrid, which has a claimed electric range of 43 miles and is coming in April this year.
The Kia Sportage plug-in hybrid also offers CO2 emissions of 25g/km, fuel economy of 252mpg and an 8% benefits tax – crucial for business car buyers to whom the model is widely intended.
The car, which is visually identical to its combustion-engined Sportage sibling, delivers a total of 265bhp and 350nm of torque, a 0-60mph time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 119mph. , achieved thanks to its 1.6-liter T-GDi engine combined with a 66.9 kW permanent magnet traction electric motor and a 13.8 kWh lithium-ion battery.
Kia said the four-cylinder gasoline engine was designed to “provide optimum fuel efficiency under all operating conditions.” These include a new combustion process, cooling technologies and friction-reducing measures, including an advanced integrated thermal management system and the use of a low-friction ball bearing.
The variant also uses Kia’s latest hybrid starter generator and hybrid power control unit which improves efficiency, performance and reduces NVH levels while driving, according to Kia.
The 7.2kW charging system, which can complete a full charge in 1h45, is the brand’s fastest plug-in hybrid to date.
Four versions: GT-Line, 3, 4, GT-Line S are available, ranging from £38,395 to £43,795.
