A POLICE officer was fired for breaching standards of professional behavior.
Detective Sergeant Mark Davis, based at East Sussex Division, has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to provide a specimen under the Road Traffic Act following a a single-vehicle collision in Willingdon last year,
The 41-year-old man was off duty at the time of the accident.
He had previously pleaded guilty to the offences.
During a misconduct hearing, Davis was charged with breaching standards of professional behavior regarding dishonorable conduct related to a criminal offense charge.
The allegation against Davis was proven by Chief of Police Jo Shiner, with a ruling that he be summarily dismissed from the force.
Police Chief Shiner said: “We expect our officers to act with the utmost integrity and in accordance with the Force’s values, code of ethics and standards of professional behavior.
“This officer’s actions fell short of this, and there is no place in Sussex Police for such behaviour.”
Davis was the subject of an expedited misconduct hearing presided over by the Chief Constable at Sussex Police Headquarters in Lewes on Monday March 14.
According to police, an expedited misconduct hearing is held when there is compelling evidence and it is in the public interest to remove the officer from duty as soon as possible or, in the case of a former officer, to place it on the bar. listing.
