UK weather: Somerset braces for hottest day of the year so far this week Bath City News

Brits will ditch winter woolens for t-shirts this week – tomorrow (Friday) set to be the hottest day of the year so far. Warm air rising from the mainland could see temperatures across Somerset reach a wide 15C – possibly rising further in sheltered places.

And the news remains good, with the county set for a warm weekend with temperatures across the UK set to peak at a balmy 18C. The spring weather replaces the wet weather yesterday where people have been forced out the umbrellas as the west country was soaked.

And although today saw a cold start with temperatures aspiring around 4°C, the mercury is expected to rise to 14°C in the afternoon. Met Office forecaster Clare Nasir said it was expected to be “very hot” this weekend.

She said: “Temperatures are on the rise over the next few days. Most places will be nice and dry with beautiful sunshine..

“Over the weekend high pressure reaching Denmark will allow stable conditions to spread across the UK, but stronger winds on Saturday certainly, gusting over hills and moorland as well as mountains, but with a southerly wind, it will be very hot. on some parts. In general, the weekend promises to be nice and dry, much warmer with a little sunshine.”

The Met Office said the hottest day so far in 2022 was 17.2C in Pershore, Worcestershire, and forecaster Dan Stroud agreed it could get hotter than that over the next few days .

“We are likely to see very pleasant spring sunshine, particularly for the London and South East region, during the day on Saturday,” he said. “We’re looking at temperatures up to 16, 17 and maybe even a rounded 18C could be possible.”
