M5 traffic chaos after motorhome overturned – major delays with traffic jams stretching for miles | United Kingdom | News UK News

The incident happened on the southbound lane between Bridgwater and Taunton. Highways England has warned travelers that it takes motorists around a quarter of an hour to clear queues.

The incident led to the closure of three lanes

The Inrix traffic monitoring system said: “Three lanes closed and slow traffic due to overturned camper van on the M5 southbound from J24 A38 Taunton Road (Bridgwater South) to J25 A358 (Taunton). The lanes one, two and three (out of four) are closed.”

The incident reportedly happened around 2:25 p.m.

Earlier today a four-car collision occurred on the M4 causing long delays.

A lorry and three cars collided on the road meaning lane 1 on the westbound M4 between J19 and J20 on the M5 has been closed.

This caused delays of approximately 15 minutes.

At the time, National Highways for the South West tweeted: “Lane 1 is closed on the #M4 westbound between J19 #Bristol and D20 #M5 /@Bristol Airport.

“There is about 15 minutes delay above the normal journey time.”

At around 3:30 p.m., Inrix posted an update indicating that one of the lanes was now reopened.

Inrix’s update at 3.31pm read: “One lane closed and slow traffic due to overturned motorhome on the M5 southbound from J24 A38 Taunton Road (Bridgwater South) to J25 A358 (Taunton).

“Lane one (of four) is closed.”
