Man dies after his Nissan crashes into a river in Midhurst Brighton News

A MAN has died after his car hit a tree and crashed into a river.

Emergency services were called to the A272 at Midhurst at 10.20am Monday morning following reports of a crash.

A silver Nissan Quashqai was traveling northeast before hitting a tree on North Street and falling into the River Rother.

The 64-year-old driver was taken to hospital in Brighton but has since died.

A male passenger, who was the only other person in the car, was not injured.

The road was closed in both directions while emergency services responded to the scene to recover the car occupants and the car.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved, but police would like it from anyone who saw what happened.

Detective Sergeant Robert Baldwin, of the Surrey and Sussex Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ‘If you were in Midhurst on the A272 on Monday morning and saw something of what s passed, or perhaps you have dash cam footage, please contact us by email: collision .appeal@sussex.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting Operation Eastwood.”
