Sheffield shuttle: Council leader Terry Fox says low-cost service will help people enjoy UEFA Women’s Euros and tram lines UK News

At the heart of everything we do and every decision I make is triple locked with people, places and planet at the center and I always try to put Sheffield first.

Opening up those key streets at Leopold St and Surrey St in our town center does just that, while removing those unsightly concrete blocks and closed gates from our roads just sends the wrong signal and that’s why I made this decision.

With the gates and blocks in place and the new shuttle arriving – which will take you from Pond Street station in Fargate and on to the markets and the centre, we are showing that our commitments are not just words.

We’re creating a better-connected city that’s fair, accessible, and inclusive, but still helps us provide better walking and cycling routes and supports our local economy and businesses.

I always bring it back to people, I have to make sure residents can get to M&S and Atkinsons, and people can cycle from Devonshire Green to Kommune.

I’ve heard a lot of people who have strong opinions about this from readers of The Star, from members of the public who have taken the time to come to meetings and talk to us like a full council and of scrutiny, telling us of their journeys as they tried to navigate around our city and I believe we have reached a compromise that really works for Sheffield.

The overwhelming majority of residents and local businesses welcome the idea of ​​a shuttle bus and we want to start operating a service as soon as possible.

I don’t want to make political remarks about this – let others, we have listened and provided what I believe is a positive service for all Sheffield residents and visitors alike, while rolling out our Clean Air Zone . We want to get people where they want to go.

Over the past year, despite all the challenges, I have continued to deliver for this city and our residents. During the last days of this fiscal year, I approve of the leader’s important decisions.

I have agreed the themes for our new Sport and Leisure Strategy so that we can focus on improving health and wellbeing and providing the people of Sheffield with the best choices and facilities to be active and live well .

And, my final act as a strong leader will be to invest in our future – our youth. As we move into the committee system, putting the stamp on the Youth Strategy is extremely important to me, it’s the last decision the leader will make for another decade and I wanted to make it clear that it’s is about the young people of this city, they are our future and this strategy paves the way for them to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives, the kind of life that will move this city forward.

Together in our city we have been through so much and made tremendous progress. Our development in the heart of the city is well underway and taking shape every time I look up; Castlegate is a thriving cultural area with beautiful green walkways and excellent cycle links. If you haven’t checked out Hillsborough Park’s amazing new café and community center yet, it opened just a few weeks ago and is already a big hit.

In addition to all that we have achieved, we have so much to look forward to. Work is about to begin on Pounds Park and the Fargate container scheme, the World Snooker Championship is fast approaching and we have a summer of events planned for you.

I hope you are ready for the UEFA Women’s Euro which will take place in July because it will be an international football festival right here in our city and with Tramlines and the Fringe at the same time, it will be a moment to remember.
