Officers chased the vehicle, a black Audi, which was traveling at excessive speed, police said.

Five vehicles were then involved in an accident on the M23, including two police cars.

“So far, three people, including two police officers, have been injured,” a police spokeswoman said.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotics, driving without a license and driving without insurance.

“All three lanes near Junction 9 on the north side are closed and it is not yet known when the road will fully reopen,” the spokeswoman added.
