The highly anticipated all-electric DeLorean supercar, unveiled at Pebble Beach in August, will take a completely different design approach to the 1980s sports coupe it takes its name from.

This isn’t the first time the revived brand has hinted at plans to bring the DMC back. Last year, 40 years to the day after the car’s launch, design house Italdesign showed a similar teaser image and more recently also previewed the car bound for Pebble Beach, confirming its involvement in the project.
Italdesign was founded by revered designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, who was responsible for the angular stainless steel body shape characteristic of the original DMC.
It’s unclear if the new DeLorean will be so true to the original design that it will go with an unpainted steel finish, but it will at least have similar gullwing doors.
In 2016, a new low-volume manufacturing bill gave the DeLorean Motor Company the green light to build a series of 300 DMCs to original specifications, but the regulations didn’t go into effect until 2019, and it there was no confirmation. that the company is pursuing these plans alongside the launch of the EVolved.
