So, in the event of a positive test, you should try to stay home and avoid contact with other people for five days from receiving the positive test.

You should avoid meeting people at high risk of COVID-19 for 10 days, especially if their immune system is weaker – whether they have been vaccinated or not.

The guidelines differ slightly for people aged 18 and under, as a positive test for this demographic only requires a three-day self-isolation.

NHS guidelines state: “Children and young people tend to be infectious to others for less time than adults.

“If they’re fine and don’t have a temperature after three days, there’s a much lower risk of them transmitting COVID-19 to others.”

The NHS advises only returning to work or normal daily activities if you feel well enough to do so and no longer have a high temperature.
