Watch Dan Stevens bang Boris Johnson on BBC’s The One Show Brighton News

Dan Stevens stunned viewers of BBC’s The One Show last night (Wednesday April 13) as he slammed Boris Johnson and branded him a ‘criminal’.

Stevens, 39, was promoting his upcoming series Gaslit on the show, which revolves around the Watergate scandal and the government of Richard Nixon in the early 1970s.

It was while the actor was explaining the show’s premise that he brushed off the Prime Minister.

When are the UK public holidays for 2022?

Stevens said, “What you have is a criminal for a leader who’s wrapped up in a messy war, embroiled in a stupid scandal and surrounded by ambitious idiots and who really should step down.”

After that, he jokingly corrected himself, “No, I’m sorry, that’s Boris Johnson’s intro.”

Presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas seemed speechless after that moment, Jenas turning away to suppress a laugh.

This criticism of Stevens comes as the leader of the Conservative Party was fined for breaking lockdown rules and attending a party in Downing Street.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Mr Johnson’s wife Carrie were also fined in connection with it.

Mr Johnson has paid his fine and is defying calls to quit his post.

What was the reaction to Dan Stevens’ comment?

The comment drew widespread reactions on social media, with former political strategist Alastair Campbell tweeting: “Dan Stevens, salute…”

Another Twitter user wrote, “Hahahaha Dan Stevens will never come back to One Show again will he?”

One person posted, “Like I can’t love Dan Stevens anymore… he goes and does this…”

Gaslit arrives on StarzPlay on Sunday, April 24.
