Brexit news: Anger over EU exit as motorists told to ‘get used to’ Dover travel chaos | United Kingdom | News UK News

Passport checks by French authorities are currently being carried out on the UK side of the Channel, but reports say authorities are stopping to check and stamp every passport.

According to Sky News’ Simon Calder: “The Port of Dover and DFDS Ferries have said it may be more of a Brexit issue.

“French passport control in Dover must stamp everyone’s passport and check everyone as a result of Brexit.

“There are also personalized checks and so on and so in fact this is the biggest exodus we have seen since a) the coronavirus pandemic and b) since Brexit and it seems the system is creaking at the seams.

“P&O [Ferries] it doesn’t help, but in fact it might be something we have to get used to in terms of control when we go through Dover to Calais.

On Twitter, some social media users thought the situation in Dover was likely to get worse.

One user, Allen Paterson, wrote: “Yes, I had my passport stamped to and from France this week.

“Colleague’s passport was not stamped on exit and caused a wait in line on return, so many opportunities for it to get worse instead of better…

One user, conner davies, wrote: “Absolute bo*s I traveled to France 2 weeks ago and had no problems.

“It was like before Brexit. The fact that a stamp is required due to Brexit causing it is a bit hopeless.

“It’s more likely that more staff will be needed on the stands, they’re never fully occupied.”

Another, Mikael Tuompo, wrote: “Not surprising. More isolation, more borders, more bureaucracy, more inefficiency… more delays.

A third user, Masty419, wrote, “If it’s going to be that complicated, don’t holiday in the EU.”
