Sheffield Wednesday bolsters play-off chances and does Rotherham United a favor with victory at MK Dons Yorkshire News

The Owls sit fifth in the table after ending the Dons’ 15-match unbeaten run and preventing the hosts from slipping back above Rotherham United and into second place.

Wednesday took the lead after 10 minutes when Bannan cut the ball in for Saido Berahino, whose shot slipped out of MK Dons goalkeeper Jamie Cumming’s grasp.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 20th minute when a corner from Bannan was forced by Lee Gregory, taking advantage of a weak mark.

Bannan then added a sensational third for the Owls just before the half hour mark when Dean Lewington headed the ball his way before the visiting captain lobbed Cumming from 35 yards.

The Dons gave themselves a lifeline five minutes before halftime via Troy Parrott’s spike and recovered another via Scott Twine’s free kick six minutes after a long stoppage period, but were unable to complete the comeback.
