The new BBC show features a cast of famous faces performing chilling challenges in sub-zero temperatures, as defined by ‘The Ice Man’ Wim Hof.

Eight celebrities have given up the comforts of their homes to be guided through frightening challenges with the record-breaking Dutchman as he pushes their bodies to their limits.

The list of celebrities in this series includes Dianne Buswell of Strictly Come Dancing, former EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite and singer Alfie Boe.

Should you keep your heating low all day?

Last week’s show saw the celebrities strip down and jump into a hole dug in a frozen lake.

The water temperature was two degrees above freezing and there was a very real risk of hyperthermia within minutes of entering the water.

Competitors then had to rappel down a 500-foot icy cliff in order to get to their new mountain home.

In the second episode of the six-part programme, the celebrities attempt Wim Hof’s signature breathing exercise.

The challenge involves the celebrities holding their breath for up to three minutes.

Hof, ‘The Ice Man’, has dedicated his life to showing others they can achieve things they thought were impossible, by controlling his mind and body in a barefoot half marathon above the circle arctic, by immersing yourself in the ice for 1h52. and climb Mount Kilimanjaro in just your shorts and shoes.

Hof designed the breathing technique to release deep emotions as part of his three-form method which also includes dealing with extreme cold and state of mind.

If you want to try the Wim Hof technique from the comfort of your couch, here are some steps you can take, according to the news.

Wim recommends, in his book: The Wim Hof method, to try the technique on an empty stomach by getting up in the morning.

Be careful, only take what is comfortable, and be aware that you might feel dizzy or even a tingling sensation in your body.

1. Sit in a comfortable meditation position so that you can breathe freely without discomfort.

2. Take 30 “power breaths”, inhaling through your nose or mouth and exhaling through your mouth in steady, powerful bursts.

3. Inhale once more, fill your lungs and let the air out and hold as long as you can without forcing until you feel the gag reflex.

4. Inhale until your lungs are at full capacity, then hold your breath for about 10 seconds. Repeat three times if you feel comfortable.

5. Over time, the breathing technique should feel like meditation, but take time to recover from the exercise before adding other elements of the Wim Hof method.

Freeze The Fear airs on BBC One at 9pm on Tuesdays.
