Jonathan Bailey has revealed the benefits he felt after swimming in cold water off the coast of Sussex.
The actor currently stars in Netflix’s Bridgerton as Lord Anthony Bridgerton and revealed to The New York Times Magazine that he moved to Sussex during the coronavirus pandemic so he could be closer to his family.
Although he admits that swimming in cold water is something he has only recently discovered, he said: “My mother’s family has always been by the sea, and I guess I have inherited this gene.”
He went on to say, “I love outdoor activities that are invigorating and challenging: being against the elements and leaning into them has always been very rewarding and meditative.

“It gives your mind and body the same experience at the same time, which feels like a reset, if only for a few minutes.”
The actor compares swimming in cold water to his job. He said: “A big part of enjoying a cold water swim is in the preparation, much like being an actor and approaching a job. The elation is in the thought of it, that feeling of invigoration and resuscitation.
“You take work, you decide to go swimming and the reality is still a bit daunting and terrifying. You gain confidence knowing you’re going to enjoy it as it becomes routine, but there’s always a part of you that knows your breath will be taken away.
Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix.
