Saltdean consultation suspended due to Rottingdean by-election Brighton News

A WARD consultation has been suspended due to a council by-election.

The consultation in West Saltdean began on April 26, asking residents for their views on an application to turn the area into a Neighborhood Forum and Neighborhood Zone.

However, Brighton and Hove City Council said pre-election period restrictions meant consultation should not have started when it did.

A council spokesperson said: “Under the guidance of advertising restrictions which would have to be observed by local authorities during a pre-election period, the consultation should not have started on April 26.

“It was an oversight on our part for which we apologize.”

Consultation is expected to resume for six weeks from May 10 to June 21.

Materials and information on how residents can participate will be reposted at that time to ensure that as many people as possible can provide feedback on the proposals.

Responses received so far will be carried forward and will not need to be resubmitted.

The council will rule on the request on September 13.

Voters in Rottingdean Coastal will go to the polls on May 5 to elect a new councilor after the sudden resignation of Joe Miller in March.
