They posted: ‘The team have been called to Bamford Edge to report a climber with a leg injury under Great Tor. When he arrived, he had indeed hurt his leg, but it’s the way the injury happened that worries.
“A boulder had been deliberately thrown from the top of the rock towards the climbers by a group of men. It is unclear whether they knew there was anyone below as they fled before they could be apprehended. .
“Fortunately, the climber was wearing a helmet which received a peek before it hit his leg. Without the helmet or had he been hit more fully in the head, things could have been much different and serious.”
The team added: “The climber’s leg injury was treated and he was evacuated to an ambulance on New Road.
“This type of behavior is completely irresponsible and could have had life-threatening consequences. He was reported to the police
“Do not throw stones at the edge of rocks and cliffs.”
