What is the Met Gala?

The Met Gala is also known as the Costume Institute Benefit or Met Ball and is simply a luxury charity event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

It all started in 1948 as a simple diner founded by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert.

But it later became the gala of former American Vogue editor Diana Vreeland and is now in the hands of current editor Anna Wintour who has run the magazine since 1995.

The fundraiser marks the opening of the Costume Institute exhibits that open to the public after the gala.

Each year, the event brings in millions selling tickets that cost almost £35,000 or an entire table between £200,000 and £300,000.

When is the Met Gala?

The gala is held annually on the first Monday of Monday, this year being May 2.

Due to the pandemic, in recent years it has been canceled or postponed to a later month like in 2021 when it was held in September.

What is the theme for the Met Gala 2022?

This year’s theme will be a second part of last year’s and will mark the opening of the second part of the same exhibition.

Both exhibitions celebrated American fashion, the first was titled ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ which celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Costumes Institute and saw guests paying tribute to Hollywood stars of the past.

The second part of the theme, which is this year, is “In America: A Fashion Anthology” which will open to the public at the Met on May 5.

As part of the theme, the dress code for the gala is Gilden Glamour, the era between 1870 and 1900.

This part of American history was known as the Gilded Age and saw immense economic growth, but also some very controversial choices.

What will guests be wearing at the Met Gala?

With Gilded’s dress code, there’s no doubt that Gild will be a key part of the red carpet, along with many striking golden moments.

The greatest designers will be there to show their inspirations including Balmain, Vivienne Westwood, Gucci, and of course Versace who are well known for the iconic gold.

Who are the hosts of the Met Gala 2022?

Each year, a select group of celebrities is chosen by Anna Wintour to co-chair the festivities.

The past few years have seen Harry Styles, Lady Gaga and Rihanna take on all the hosting duties.

This year it’s a mixed group with award-winning actress Regina King, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and power couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.

Will Zendaya be at the Met Gala?

If there’s one celebrity who never fails to impress with her brilliantly chosen outfits, it’s Euphoria actress Zendaya.

Over the past few years, she’s worn iconic outfits including a stunning Gucci jungle ball gown and a powerhouse Joan of Arc-inspired dress.

Many fans are all eagerly waiting to see what the star will be wearing and sharing their opinions.

But sadly, the Spider-Man star will be skipping the Met Gala this year, as she told Extra in an interview.

Say, “I hate to disappoint my fans here, but I’m going to work. Your daughter needs to work and make movies…I wish everyone the best.”

But there is always next year.
