Queen hit by new security breach at Windsor Castle UK News

The Queen has suffered a new security scare at Windsor Castle following a breach in the castle grounds after an impostor forced his way inside the barracks.

Police were alerted to reports of an intruder at Victoria Barracks in Sheet Street, Windsor, at 9.20am on Wednesday while the Queen was in Sandringham for Easter.

The barracks are home to the Coldstream Guards, recognized by their red jackets and black bearskin hats, and play a ceremonial role as protectors of Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.

Soldiers were approached at the gate by the man posing as a priest, TalkTV reported.

He reportedly spent the night eating and drinking with senior officers before being offered a bed for the night, although he showed no identification or credentials.

“The guy showed up at the door, said his name was Father Cruise and claimed to be a friend of the battalion chaplain, the Reverend Matt Coles. He was invited and offered something to eat, a source told The Sun newspaper.

Extraordinary Breach of Security

Meanwhile, a source told TalkTV’s The News Desk: “This is just an extraordinary breach of security.

“The guy showed up at the door in the evening and said his name was Father Cruise and claimed to be a friend of the battalion chaplain, the Reverend Matt Coles.

“He was invited and offered something to eat at the officers’ mess.

“Within hours he was drinking with the officers in the bar and telling them about his service in Iraq.

“He was telling a lot of stories and the guys were enjoying his jokes and had a few drinks.”

Army and police statement

An army spokesperson said: ‘The army takes this security breach very seriously and it will be fully investigated as a matter of priority.

“This incident is now part of an ongoing investigation and it would therefore be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

The Thames Valley Police spokesman told The Sun: ‘We received a report of an intruder at Victoria Barracks in Sheet Street, Windsor at 9.20am on Wednesday.

“The officers went to the scene and removed the intruder from the barracks. No further action was necessary.
