Britons have been told to expect sweltering 30C temperatures this month amid a ‘Spanish sizzle’ heading into the UK.
Barbecues and beer gardens could be on the horizon as the last weeks of May look set to bring summer weather.
The Met Office predicts a ‘heat wave’ in May
The Met Office has already predicted a ‘brief heatwave’, with meteorologists predicting temperatures will rise further in June.
A ‘Spanish Sizzler’ will push the warm weather across the continent just in time for the weekend of celebrations.
The forecaster’s long-range weather forecast predicts: “Risks of hot weather and heat waves are increased compared to average, especially later in the period.
“There is an increased likelihood of warmer than average conditions over the three months.”
Meteorologist Marco Petagna said the weather could get “very hot” later this month, peaking around 22C or 23C in southern England.
“Temperatures are several degrees above where they should be at this time of year,” he said.
He added that there was a “small chance” of temperatures reaching the mid-20s, meaning a “brief” heat wave.
Hot weather is expected to hit the UK this week
The sun could arrive as early as Thursday May 5 with temperatures expected to rise this weekend.
Temperatures in southern England could reach 18C today (May 5), with London and the south east set to experience the best of summer weather.
Simon Partridge, a Met Office forecaster, told the Mirror: “This week is a weird old one.
“There is quite a bit of rain and cloud around as well as sunny spells, with many areas gradually warming up until Thursday, which is expected to be the hottest day.
“Between Monday and Wednesday, temperatures will be in the low 20s and 20s in Wales and central and southern England, while eastern Scotland could reach 19C.
“But in parts of Northern Ireland, northern England and Scotland there will be cloudiness and a few scattered showers.”
