Progress Pride flags raised in Hertsmere in support of LGBTQ+ UK News

Flags were raised across Hertsmere in support of the borough’s LGBTQ+ community.

The Pride Progress flag was hoisted outside the Hertsmere Borough Council offices in Borehamwood by the Mayor of Hertsmere on Tuesday.

Cllr John Graham was joined by council staff, advisers and colleagues from the NHS, Hertfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Pride Progress is an updated version of the Pride rainbow flag, with flags also flown at Aberford Park in Borehamwood, Parkfield in Potters Bar and King George Recreation Ground in Bushey.

Cllr Graham said: “June commemorates the Stonewall Riots of 1969, an event that marked a turning point in the gay rights movement in America and around the world.

“This year marks 50 years of the first Pride event in the UK and the month provides an opportunity to educate ourselves on the issues and advocate for further change, but also to celebrate the community and how far LGBTQ rights have come. +.

“It was a pleasure to come together with colleagues from the board and our partner agencies at this flag raising event.”
