South Yorkshire Police have issued the warning after a series of break-ins in the Ecclesfield, Chapeltown, High Green and Grenoside areas.
In a Facebook post, the Sheffield North East Ward Police Team said: ‘Over the past week we have seen a number of break-ins in the area where offenders have gained access through cat flaps, c It is therefore a timely reminder to keep them locked at night and to remove keys or valuables nearby to prevent easy access to your homes.
“We currently have a suspect in custody related to these offenses.”
Cat Flap burglars often push a post through the opening or letterboxes and hang sets of keys left near doors, allowing them access to homes.
To report information on burglars, call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
