After the world debut online, the new Hyundai Bayon is starting to make itself known in the main European markets. And here a specimen was brought to Milan for a first contact with the press, without a test drive.
The Bayon – which ranks in segment B, so below the sister Kona – has personality. Even more than the Kona. If the front – with the wide grille – recalls the Hyundai family feeling in the design of the lower lights, the lines of the side give strength to the side. The tail definitely stands out from the other models of the House and is among the most original in the B-Suv segment: arrow headlights, angular lines above the rear arch, extended rear window …
The spacious interior: the feeling that it is even more so than that of the Kona, despite its similar dimensions (418 cm the length of the Bayon against the 417 of the Kona; 177 cm of width against 180; 149 cm of height against 155; 258 cm of step against 260). just a question of forms. As can also be seen in the trunk, where the new model has 411 liters of capacity (extendable up to 1,205 with the rear seats folded down), while the Kona does not go beyond 361 / 1,143.
It is comfortable both in the driver’s seat is behind, on the sofa. The dashboard recalls that of the i20, with which, in fact, the Bayon shares the mechanics. Two 10.25 “displays for digital instrumentation and infotainment, with clear graphics. Smartphone compatibility Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available in wireless mode. Three USB ports for charging and induction charging plate for the phone. ADAS are standard in the SmartSense package: from lane keeping to automatic emergency braking.
Two engines at launch, both petrol: 84 Hp 1.2 Mpi, combined with the five-speed manual gearbox, and 100 Hp 1.0 T-GDi with 48 Volt Mild mild hybrid system, which instead can be combined with the six-speed manual gearbox or the automatic seven-speed double clutch. The 120 hp T-GDi petrol will then be added. The Bayon 1.2 Mpi declares an average of CO2 emissions, calculated in the Wltp cycle, between 134 to 143 g / km, while the 100 Hp mild hybrid stops at 122-134 g / km.
Two productions, the details of which are not yet known: in the coming weeks, the price lists will be released – the price should be around 19 thousand euros, with a rich standard equipment -, the first deliveries are scheduled for May. Curiosity: the name Bayon inspired by the town of Bayonne, the capital of the French Basque Country and considered by Hyundai to be one of the most fascinating destinations in southwestern Europe.
