It may be considered a cheap and unsophisticated chocolate bar by some, but fearless war reporter Clarissa Ward says there’s one element she can’t enter a conflict zone without: a Snickers bar. .

CNN’s multi-award-winning chief international correspondent also advises aspiring war journalists: “If you’re a picky eater, go home, because you’re not going to last.”

Speaking on the latest episode of the food and drink podcast Biting Talk, Ward celebrates the release of his book, On all fronts: educating a journalist. “You have to be prepared to literally eat whatever is put in front of you,” she said, adding that “it is partly for survival and partly for politeness.”

Ward says she was “an activist” for wrapping certain food items, such as granola bars and her beloved Snickers who, she says, “make a great breakfast with Arabic coffee.”
