Candidates revealed in Edgware by-election to Barnet UK News

A list of candidates has been revealed for the upcoming by-election in Edgware.

Voters will go to the polls on Thursday, May 6 to elect a successor to longtime Conservative adviser Brian Gordon, who died in September last year.

Local elections have been postponed following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, amid concerns over its impact on the campaign and the vote.

But with the gradual lifting of restrictions, the government allowed them to move forward from May.

Edgware’s by-election candidates are:

  • Andrea Lesley Bilbow – Labor Party
  • Nick Mearing-Smith – Conservative Party
  • Sam Murray – Green Party
  • Roger Martin Tichborne – Liberal Democrats

The Tories won a large majority in Edgware in the 2018 local election, with Cllr Gordon having more than 2,000 votes ahead of the most polled Labor candidate.

The Barnet Council is currently made up of 36 Conservative advisers, 23 Labor members and two Liberal Democrats, with two vacant posts.
