A list of candidates has been revealed for the upcoming by-election in East Barnet.
Five candidates are trying to succeed Labor’s Jo Cooper, who resigned her role as neighborhood councilor in March due to work commitments in the NHS.
Local elections have been postponed following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, amid concerns over its impact on the campaign and the vote.
But with the lockdown restrictions being phased out, voters in London will head to the polls on Thursday, May 6 to participate in by-elections, which will run alongside the London Mayor and Assembly contests.
The East Barnet by-election candidates are:
- Gabrielle Louise Bailey – Green Party
- Sean James Hooker – Liberal Democrats
- Linda Lusingu – Labor Party
- Alex Merola – The movement for Great Britain
- Nicole Alison Richer – Conservative Party
The 2018 local election was a close contest in East Barnet, with Cllr Cooper just 144 votes ahead of the closest Tory candidate.
The Barnet Council is currently made up of 36 Conservative advisers, 23 Labor members and two Liberal Democrats, with two vacant posts.
