Four UK Covid deaths were confirmed today – and one was in Mendips Bath City News

Another person has died after being diagnosed with coronavirus in the Mendips area, the latest figures show.

Across the UK, four new Covid-related deaths were confirmed today (May 10) and one of them was in Somerset.

Since the pandemic first struck, the Mendips have reported 161 deaths from Covid.

Yesterday another death was recorded in Sedgemoor – the death toll in that region is now 160.

Data also released today shows 28 new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours – an increase from nine on Sunday.

Sedgemoor recorded the largest gain of seven, while southern Somerset reported six.

Mendips and Somerset West and Taunton confirmed the low of three.

The number of positive test results in each area since the start of the pandemic is recorded below, with the new positive test results recorded in the past 24 hours in parentheses:

A new death has been reported in Sedgemoor.

Statistics show the number of deaths of people who have died within 28 days of a positive test.

The government said four more people died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 on Monday, bringing the UK total to 127,609.

Separate figures released by UK statistical agencies show that there have been 152,000 registered deaths in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The government also said as of 9 a.m. on Monday there had been 2,357 more laboratory-confirmed cases in the UK.

This brings the total to 4,437,217.

Government data up to May 9 shows that of the 53,328,845 vaccines administered in the UK so far, 35,472,295 were first doses – an increase of 100,626 the day before.

Some 17,856,550 were second doses, an increase of 187,171.
