Emergency services were called today for the incident between Barnham and Chichester.
Services in West Sussex have been suspended and replacement rail buses are being organized.
A death has not been confirmed, but Southern Rail reported news online.
The operator said: ‘It is with great sadness that we report that a person has been struck by a train between Barnham and Chichester.
“All lines are blocked between these stations while emergency services work to deal with this incident.
“If you are looking to travel between these stations or along this route, please allow extra time as you may need to use an alternate route this afternoon.
“Replacement rail buses have been requested to run from Bognor Regis, Barnham, Chichester and Havant.
“Once these are confirmed we will provide you with an update. Please postpone the trip until later if possible.”
For those who need to travel, their ticket will be accepted at no additional cost on the Stagecoach 700 service between Brighton and Havant and the Metrobus services between Worthing, Horsham and Three Bridges.
