Christian Eriksen: Viewers slam BBC live coverage after player received CPR on the pitch UK News

Viewers of the Euro 2020 game between Denmark and Finland have taken to social media to criticize the BBC’s coverage of the incident involving Christian Eriksen.

Live BBC coverage continued to focus on Eriksen receiving CPR for several minutes, and also showed his wife being comforted by teammates and officials.

Eventually, live coverage from Parken Stadium in Copenhagen returned to the studio, where visibly shaken host Gary Lineker offered his words of prayer for Eriksen, along with pundits Cesc Fabregas, Alex Scott and Micah Richards.

But viewers were angry with the decision to continue broadcasting during the heartbreaking incident.

Ofcom’s privacy rules state: “Broadcasters shall not take or broadcast footage or audio of people caught in emergency situations, victims of accidents or victims of tragedy. personal, even in a public place, where it results in an invasion of privacy, unless it is justified or the persons concerned have given their consent.

The Group B game was suspended just before half-time and resumed at 7:30 p.m. BST.

Colin Millar tweeted: “The players from Denmark had to form a protective ring around their teammate. A Distraught Woman was broadcast around the world. TV broadcasters and cameramen are capable of blocking footage of pitch invaders, but not that? Sorry, this is not ok.

@JoeyTHFC referred to Ofcom rules and added: “This is what OFCOM says about situations like we just experienced. The one that was ignored for a good 10 to 15 minutes, including showing footage of Eriksen’s wife. Shame on you, BBC.

@ Siobhan3Leigh posted: “So much respect for those around Eriksen on the floor … but it’s really disgusting that the BBC found it appropriate to film a man on the floor receiving CPR and his devastated wife !!! J ‘send all my love and healing to Eriksen and his family “

Others simply registered their shock. Fabrice Muamba, the former footballer who recovered after suffering cardiac arrest in 2012, tweeted: “Please God.”

UEFA then issued the following statement: “Following the medical emergency involving Danish player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 7.45pm CET . The player was transferred to the hospital and stabilized.
