First images of the scene as firefighters tackle a “large-scale fire” at the Hexham stationery UK News

Firefighters are battling a “large-scale fire” at a paper mill in Hexham.

The Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service posted on social media around 3:50 p.m. Thursday that crews were battling a blaze at Fourstones Paper Mill, Hexham.

A spokesperson said seven fire trucks had been dispatched to the scene to deal with the situation.

The fire is still ongoing and firefighters are being assisted by the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service.

Smoke can still be seen coming from the stationery building with fire crews using hoses in an attempt to put out the flames.

It is not yet known whether the stationery was seriously damaged by the fire.

Northumbria Police were first called in to help firefighters deal with traffic in the area.

Emergency services have asked the public to avoid the area and nearby roads have been closed.
