He was driving a Peugeot which lost control and landed sideways on Bernard Road near Hyde Park yesterday.
When officers arrived, they found a set of crutches at the scene of the accident.
South Yorkshire Police said: ‘I think the driver must have thought he was doing laps on the Nurburgring with the skid marks he left on the road.
“Then he got out and ran away trying to signal the motorists to pick him up.
“We were a little curious as to why there were two hospital crutches in the car, but after a quick check of some camera footage it all came to light as we watched him hobble with a pot on his leg. “
Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
