The weather can sometimes be beautiful on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park, with lochs, hills and heather, and where man and machine can reconnect with nature. There have been few highlights over the past 15 months, but the way the natural world has bounced back in the absence of humans was one of the best – so what better way to celebrate that than an escape in a 45,000 acre country estate? Time well and you’ll even avoid midges.

Get some foil around these Scottish eggs and make sure the cola is flat: we’re going on a road trip. No, not Route 66 or the North Coast 500 but the A21 from London to Camber Sands – arguably the UK’s most scenic beach.

I concede this isn’t the most physically demanding or the most dynamically rewarding schlep, so you might as well relax with a real old-school Volkswagen camper van. You won’t get there quickly, but you can sleep there afterwards – and you won’t be able to make a cup of tea in a Caterham.
