Unexploded ordnance detonated by Selsey Coastguard on Medmerry Beach Brighton News

VIDEO shows ordnance exploded in an explosion controlled by the bomb disposal team.

Selsey Coastguard were called to Medmerry Beach following reports of possible munitions around 8am today.

The item was then located and photos were taken and sent to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

The EOD then arrived on the beach and carried out a controlled explosion just after 12:00.

A Selsey Coastguard spokesman said: “Ordnance comes in all shapes and sizes and the ordnance found on this beach was found to still be highly explosive, like today’s piece.

“So please don’t touch it and immediately call the coastguard on 999 and ask for the coastguard.

“In an emergency at sea, on the beach or along the coast, dial 999.”
