Amir Khan blames London Mayor Sadiq Khan for crime levels in London UK News

Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain news programme, the boxer told the hosts that ‘even after this happened I was still in London for another two days and just wandering around outside and j I was really scared”.

He added that although he was not wearing a watch following his recent encounter, he still felt “very insecure when walking around London and England”.

The professional boxer was joined by his wife Faryal Markhdoom from their home in Dubai who told presenters that ‘you would never think this would happen’ adding that it was ‘a very big wake-up call’.

The remark comes after the boxer had his £75,000 watch stolen at gunpoint while crossing the road in east London with his wife.

Amir told fans he saw two men approach him with guns asking for his watch which he quickly handed over.

Since the incident, the Metropolitan Police have opened an investigation into the armed robbery.

A police spokesperson told the BBC that “a man in his 30s was reportedly approached by two men who threatened him with a gun before stealing his watch and stalking him. ‘run away,’ according to a statement.

“There were no reports of gunfire or injuries. Police responded and searched the area.

“At this very early stage, there have been no arrests. An investigation has begun and the police are following up on a number of inquiries.”
