They are set to coincide with the first day of the national railway strike, which will see 50,000 workers strike over three days and mark the largest national strike since the late 1980s.

The strikes follow pension disputes and job losses and will follow strikes that took place after the Platinum Jubilee Bank Hoilday weekend.

In March, a similar walkout took place which saw the entire London Underground network shut down as workers went on strike.

More than 200 stations were closed and commuters had to pack their bags on buses and queue for Boris bikes to get home.

Major travel disruptions were also seen on Monday June 6 when 4,000 RMT Tube employees took part in industrial action.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “TfL, London Underground Limited (LUL) and the Mayor of London have had ample opportunity to negotiate properly with the union to avoid this strike today.

“We will not rest until we find a just settlement to this dispute and we urge the Mayor to stand up to the Tory government which is cutting funding to TfL rather than try to fight with the workers of the tube.”
